AREAS OF EMPHASES
- DISEASE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT:
Health and Hunger issues affect the entire world. Preventable diseases like HIV/AIDS and malaria result in the deaths of more than six million people each year. Every year, over 6.6million children never see their fifth birthday. Good nutrition, which is necessary for healthy growth improves a child’s immune system.
1. Roll back malaria:
In the first phase of our program to roll back malaria in our society we plan to procure and distribute twenty thousand insecticides treated nets to children and pregnant women in various communities in our district. This will be combined with health education on malaria prevention and in order to ensure continuity the users will also be taught how to maintain and re-treat their nets.
Projected cost: 9 Million naira.
2. Intercontinental Medicare Project:
A multifaceted medical care project incorporating correction for polio deformities and other limb deformities, 150 dental surgeries, 100 ear, nose and throat and 500 eye surgeries is being planned between our district and D3131, India.
Projected cost: 15 million naira.
3. Correction of cleft lip and palate defects:
In collaboration with Alliance for smiles from USA, we plan to organize a surgical camp for the treatment of 100 babies born with Cleft lip and palate defects in Ogun State.
Projected cost: Six million naira.
4. Jaipur limb workshop: In the 2009-10 Rotary year our district established and donated a factory for the manufacture of artificial limbs to the Lagos State Government. Going by the success achieved with this we plan to establish another one in Abeokuta. In this year we shall continue to offer support to the factory in Lagos and ensure that the one for Abeokuta is established and handed over to the Government of Ogun State. We believe that with the aid of this project many of them will be able to make use of their limps thereby gaining their freedom and becoming more independent.
Projected cost: Seven million naira.
5. Safe blood and blood bank project:
Immediate access to safe blood and blood products in emergencies can save lives. In collaboration with Safe Blood Africa project we shall establish blood banking facilities in at least two hospitals in the district. The facilities will not only provide safe blood and blood products; we shall also embark on a major campaign to encourage members of the society to donate blood freely to support these facilities.
Projected cost: Eleven million naira.
- WATER AND SANITATION:
Water is essential to human life and many take safe water for granted. Today, 1.1billion people – nearly 20 percent of the world’s population, lack access to safe and clean drinking water and 2.6billion people are without basic sanitation facilities.
